Mechanical Design Engineer

Opportunity:  ENCON Evaporators is a manufacturer of evaporation and drying systems for industrial and commercial wastewater and process applications based in Hooksett, NH.  We offer an excellent opportunity for a mechanical design engineer with advanced 3D mechanical design skills. This position will be working alongside a team of mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers with a goal of continuous legacy product improvement and new product development.

Responsibilities:   

  • Determining the most effective modeling and parts creation approach (eg. parametric, direct, etc.) for a given project
  • Maintaining and improving on our design process / documentation such that models and detailed drawings are current and represent best practices. This includes but is not limited to: 3D models, 2D detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, archiving in Vault, BOM creation in MRP, Sales Order processing.
  • Completing accurate 3D models, detailed drawings, and Bills of Material (BOM’s) that are designed for manufacturing.
  • Support of ENCON systems and major components including vessels, heat exchangers, skids, frames, pipe and pump assemblies.    
  • Accurately completing stress and load calculations to ensure systems are engineered correctly.
  • Developing familiarity with and incorporating relevant machine codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA, CSA, etc. in your designs.
  • Interacting with vendors to support/design system components, materials, and design alternatives.
  • Providing cross departmental support for production, service, sales, etc.

Background & Experience:

  • Extensive experience and expertise with Autodesk Inventor.
  • Proven experience with analysis and selection of effective modeling and parts creation techniques along with system setup prior to commencing with models.
  • Extensive 3D modeling and detailing design experience of process equipment with sheet metal, tubular steel, and pipe assembly fabrication.   
  • A proven habit of sensible approaches that yield timely and thorough completion of designs and documentation.
  • Extensive working experience utilizing the features of Autodesk Inventor (eg. View Representation, Content Center, Pipe and Cable Routing, etc.) in a way that expedites design changes for similar components and systems and facilitates Design for Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Extensive experience translating engineering concepts into assembly designs that are easily interpreted and able to be outsourced for fabrication.
  • A habit of soliciting input from fabricators to confirm best methods for fabrication and assembly.
  • A habit of maintaining design documentation according to company practices such that models and drawings are current and represent best practices. This includes 3D models, detailed parts drawings, design documentation, vaulting and MRP work.
  • Correctly documenting and labeling mechanical drawings according to widely recognized ANSI standards.
  • A habit of peer review of designs done by you and your colleagues.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Design Engineering.
  • Experience doing large scale high quality industrial equipment design using Autodesk Inventor is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills with an aptitude to work collaboratively on solving problems.
